Within the new portal, you are able to import your questions to a course using a variety of formats. When a file is selected to import, it will be processed against all available filters. The user will not need to choose the correct filter in order for their questions to import properly. With this method, you will be able to export questions from your LMS or manually build your questions for the course and import them with ease. This feature is available to Institution, Department, and Course level administrators.
To import questions, login and navigate to the appropriate course. Select the Import Queue sub-tab.
The page will show any past imports to the course. If there are none, the list will be blank. Click Upload to begin the process.
A new modal window will appear with instructions. As stated above, the importer will accept the following file types: .doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt, .xls, and .xml. Drag & drop your file, or click the Choose Files button to proceed.
Using either method, your file will be processed through our filters. Once ready, you will see the the file name within the list, with a message stating the file is Ready for Review.
Clicking the expand icon will allow you to add more columns to the grid if there are any not being displayed.
Click the file name within the list to show the filters used to process your file, as well as the number of questions formatted and the number of form errors.
Click the Pencil icon to begin the validation process.
Within the list to the left, you will find all imported questions. The list will display each question's title (up to 40 characters), and the type. Selecting a question within the list will display the full question to the right. This process will allow you to validate each question and make appropriate changes before adding them to the course's question bank.
To navigate through the questions, you may simply select the next question from the list to the left, or utilize the Previous and Next buttons within the validation pane.
With a question selected, you're able to edit every field just as if you were creating or editing a question. If your question text didn't import correctly, we provide a text box showing the original text before going through the importer. You can easily copy & paste the original text to make adjustments.
At the bottom of the page, you can add an attachment and tag the question with categories. For more information regarding attachments, please read our Inline Images & Attachments guide. For more information on how to tag categories, please read our Tagging a Question with Categories guide.
Adding Imported Images to Question or Answer Choices
If you included images within your import file, you will be able to add them as inline images within the question text or answer choice. To the right of the question stem or answer choice, you will see the camera icon, with a number beside it. This number will represent the number of images contained in the original import file.
To insert an inline image into the question, click the camera icon. This will open a slide-out pane where you can select the image from the ones you'd imported. Click the image or images you wish to add, then click Select
